Write That Story: A LIVE Workshop (Weekly)

An inspirational weekly 2-hour week workshop for 7 weeks that includes:

* NEW!  Written feedback on 2000 words

The 9 graduate-level questions to use in content editing (also called developmental editing).

* NEW! Reiki meditations to upgrade your identity as a writer. Simply listen and transform your storytelling and writing abilities.

* NEW! Choose 1 book as a model for the kind of writing you'd like to do. I'll create a writing exercise from that book to illuminate a crucial point of craft . You'll learn how to close the gap between your level of skill and the example from your chosen book. (This will supercharge your writing skills and help you develop a powerful voice.)

* The 20 advanced rules of self-editing.

* Max 12 writers. Save your spot now!

HOW IT WORKS...

EACH CLASS WILL BEGIN WITH A ONE-HOUR TRAINING ON TOPICS SUCH AS:

* Identify the genre you're most suited to (literary, women's fiction, thriller, mystery, speculative fiction, etc) so you can then identify what readers of your writing enjoy most

* Identify an author whose writing inspires you  and makes you feel, "I can do this!".

* Analyze their prose and storytelling style and work to close the gap (if any) between their style and yours.

* MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: Analyze and lean into your own voice using principles of radical expression.

* Craft conversations on the principles that create powerful stories

So you can write powerful short stories or chapters of your novel/memoir in the shortest time possible.

THE SECOND HOUR OF CLASS WILL BE DEVOTED TO THE PRACTICE OF CRUCIAL ELEMENTS OF CRAFT WHICH WE WILL THEN SHARE ALOUD (not mandatory).

You will:

* Feel SO excited to start - or increase - your writing!

* Decide who you really want to be as a writer

* Practice 'sacred pauses' so you can let go of frustration and stay focused

* Learn what motivates you and how to regain your enthusiasm if it wanes

* And finish that story or chapter!

Class feedback will include genre-specific conversations on craft and the principles of editing such as:

* Genre-specific ways to start your story or chapter in a way that hooks the reader

* Genre-specific ways to make your middles so compelling that readers can't put your story down

* Genre-specific options for ending your story or chapter in ways that leave the reader feeling stimulated and/or satisfied

We will study excerpts from short stories, novels, and memoirs by literary, thriller, mystery, and speculative authors.

WHAT THIS WILL DO FOR YOUR WRITING

You'll feel excited about your writing and profound satisfaction as you 'scratch the deep itch' that only comes from writing from the deepest part of your Soul (part of radical self-expression).

You'll feel confident knowing you're acquiring the skills needed to fix your story or chapter in ways that will ultimately make it more publishable.

Going forward, you may conceive a more dramatic, more powerful chapter or story with greater emotional impact. And emotional impact is what makes a story or chapter great.

This class will teach you how to:

* Create conflict that's highly compelling

* Maintain taut pacing and narrative tension

* Create powerful plots

* Create dynamic characters who drive the action

* Create characters readers connect with

* Develop your own strong, unique voice

WHEN:

Class is Wednesdays from 2 - 4 PM ET / 11 AM - 1 PM PST

Each week for 7 weeks

Starting Wednesday March 13 - April 24th 2024

WHERE:

On Zoom

Don't worry if you can't attend live; you can still do two things:

1. Submit your questions and I'll answer them during class so you can get the answers from the replay and

2. Submit your writing for written feedback and replays will be available.

HOW IT WORKS

In each 2-hour session, Tessa will offer a one-hour training on one of the principles above.

In the second hour, she will lead the class in the practice of crucial craft exercises so you discover how to write memorable characters and crafting powerful plots.

The exercises will then be shared aloud (not mandatory, don't worry!).

You will learn (either live or later on the recordings):

A) All of the above PLUS the advanced principles of content and line editing as they apply to YOUR writing

So you can then:

B) Feel confident applying them to your own work step-by-step.

You'll have up to 2000 words edited (feedback will be written and returned via email).

Can't wait to see you inside!

Wishing you love and happy writing,

Tessa

PS This class is the perfect complement to the Bloom Writers' Salon membership.

I'll help you get speedily to your next-level writing whilst massively enhancing your enjoyment! To that end, we'll include a special segment on vulnerability and humor and how to add it to your writing. Let's go!

What People Are Saying:

I am a published New York Times writer because Tessa was my editor.

Aileen Hewitt

Tessa was a remarkable teacher, not just of writing in the digital age, but of the art and craft of writing in general. Her vision was timeless and inspired, and her course was truly life-changing for me.

If you were to look up the words 'professional', 'positive', and 'supportive' you'd likely find a picture of Tessa listed next to each. She is the very definition of a master teacher. She has, not incidentally, taught all of us writers and nascent writers to treat ourselves with "loving kindness", a force which can power us on to accomplishments--in writing as well as in broader life. Prospective students ought be encouraged to run, not walk, to sign up for one of her offerings.
